My top 10 favorites songs (revisited)
A little while ago, I posted a list of my top 10 favorite songs. I mentioned in that post that the list is subject to change over time, so here is my first revision to the list.
Honorable mentions: Nirvana - "Breed," Steely Dan - "Do It Again," Drake - "Sneakin'"
10. Frank Ocean - "Seigfried"
This song is lowkey sad, but I cannot stop listening to it. It's got like three different parts that are just so good. The verses, the bridge, the outro, all nuts. Really don't have too much to say about this song other than it just hits.
9. Shonen Knife - "Top Of The World"
To be honest, I haven't really been listening to this song that much recently, but I was looking over my previous top ten list and I just couldn't let it go. It's too good of a song to not make my top ten, regardless of what I'm listening to.
8. Joey Bada$$ - "Waves"
Joey Bada$$ made 1999, the album which this song is from, when he was 17, and though I like the whole album, this song in particular is one of the few that take me from an ordinary level of "wow that's impressive" to a level of "damn that shit's crazy." The guitar on the beat is so damn good, and his flow is just so vibey on top of it.
7. Nirvana - "On A Plain"
Huge shoutout to Parker for gifting me Nevermind on vinyl, that was definitely one of the biggest purchases of the semester that's been a blast to listen to over and over. This song is my dad's favorite on the album, and I can't blame him. He oft requests it, and, likely due to exposure, I've come to like it quite a bit as well.
6. Led Zeppelin - "When the Levee Breaks"
Another one of my dad's favorites off its respective album, this song has been played a lot in the last few weeks, and this extra attention earned it being raised a few spots.
5. Frank Ocean - "Nights"
It's been pretty gray in Seattle recently. I lowkey don't mind the weather, I think it's very pretty, but definitely providing lots of golden opportunities to listen to Frank. As such, "Nights" moves up on the list.
4. Pink Floyd - "The Great Gig in the Sky"
Not sure how this song evaded my original list, but if you need a song to play at full volume just to experience the sound, please let it be this song. One of the best non-lyrical vocal performances I can think of, and the musical backing behind it is just so grand it's awesome.
3. Gorillaz - "Empire Ants"
Legitimately could say the same thing about this song as I did the last one (aside from the non-lyrical vocals). The drops on these two songs are two of the nuttiest drops I've ever heard, and this one is just so crazy. I listened to this song at sunset the other day while eating some bomb poké and I could swear I felt myself ascending to another realm. Wild stuff.
2. Lupe Fiasco - "Mural"
This song has worked its way up to my second most listened-to song of all time since the last list. That's all I have to say on it I think.
1. Pink Floyd - "Echoes"
I wasn't sure if this song should stay at the top of my list when I started writing, but I just listened to it again and I absolutely believe it needs to stay at #1. I've said it before, but this is one of the most well-orchestrated songs I've ever heard, and I don't think I can give it much more praise than I already have. I know it's long, but again I highly recommend that everyone take 20 minutes out of their day and sit down and listen to this song.
