Bagel review 2
Today I went back to the classics. I went to the Biskit Cafe for an early-afternoon bagel, and ordered the Best Ugly Salmon Bagel. This bagel features "Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Red Onion, Black Olives, Feta Cheese, Dill or Basil leaves, Capers & Best Ugly Sesame Bagel." While I'm not typically too keen to this many toppings, I pushed myself to eat this bagel without any exclusion. While I can't say that I was terribly surprised (I love bagels, and there wasn't anything to dislike), I found this bagel inarguably scrumptious. The salmon certainly dominated the dish, which is exactly what I look for in a salmon-topped bagel. In fact, what I think this bagel did best was its ratios. The cream cheese came in a perfect quantity. Personally, I am a huge supporter of light cream cheese spreads. It was great to not be taking mouthfuls of cream cheese with each bite, but rather to consume equally sized portions of bagel/cream cheese and salmon. While I'm not a huge fan of capers nor olives, neither was overdone on this bagel, and, as such, both provided their own unique tastes to an enjoyable extent (perhaps there were one or two too many olives for my liking, but they were easy to take off so I can't mark it down too much). The dill and feta were two of the subtler elements of the dish, but they both played their roles excellently, and I was happy to find them there, even though they are not my typical go-to bagel toppings. The onions were, as always, a terrific crunchy compliment to the softness of the salmon. I might even go so far as to say there could have been more onions, but I was still thoroughly satisfied with the quantity I received. Lastly, the bagel came with a lemon wedge, a few drops of which added a nice acidic edge to an already awesome bagel. Though my standards are pretty low (I'd imagine most entries will be above a 7 (I'm sorry I love bagels)), I'm still gonna go ahead and give this bagel a 9/10.
